Adhoc list

The ad-hoc list is an audience list that can be created by uploading five (5) CSV files. The list can hold up to five (5) million records (50,00,000) with up to twelve (12) attributes per audience record.

The application does not save the audience data created using an ad-hoc list in the Audience database. However, it stores it as a separate list for use during the campaign orchestration. The ad-hoc lists cannot be segmented further and must be used 'As-is' in the state.

Note The ad-hoc list may not have all the functions and features available in the target list.

  • The number of files permissible - Limitation to create up to five (5) ad-hoc lists per business unit.
  • File name – The file name does not permit special characters.
  • File size - A maximum of 10MB file size is allowed per file.
  • The number of records - A maximum of one million records is allowed per list. (Each file with one (1) million of records/data)
  • Multiple file uploads - Multiple file uploads are permissible only if column headers match across the CSV files.
  • Mandatory data type format - The 'Email column' must support the "EmailID" data type format, and the 'Mobile column' must support the "MobileNo" data type format. If the data type formats are incorrect, an error displays during the data upload process.
  • Header attributes – The CSV file header attributes must not contain any spaces. (i.e., The 'First name' must be set as 'FirstName').
  • Mandatory column headers - The file must contain 'EmailID' or 'MobileNo' as column headers.
  • The number of column headers – The list supports column headers of up to 25 headers.
  • Data length - The 'MobileNo' data length must be >=6 (greater than or equal to 6 and <=15 (less than or equal to 15), and it must be only numerical values.
  • The ad-hoc list's validity - The ad-hoc list is valid for 95 days.Ad-hoc list deletion - The ad-hoc list function deletes the existing ad-hoc list to create a new ad-hoc list if it exceeds the number of records.
  • While selecting the audience for a campaign during campaign creation, choosing a single ad-hoc list is available.
  • Identifying an ad-hoc list - The 'passport id' starts with a prefix alphabetical character "AL_" (i.e: AL_J22BF4T). The characters following the prefix in the ad-hoc list are the import description provided during the file upload process. For example: Consider the test email using the adhoc list.
  • At the footer section, the test preview email contains the 'passport ID' with a prefix as 'AL_ xxxxxx' wherein the prefix 'AL' stands for ad-hoc list.
  • Processing time - The maximum time to process one million records may take up to three (3) hrs.
  • Combination of lists - In the application, during the campaign creation process, while selecting the audience for a campaign, either an ad-hoc list or seed list can be selected but selecting a combination of the adhoc list and seed lists is not possible. In short, an adhoc list cannot work with any combination of lists.

Understanding how ad-hoc list works#

During the ad-hoc list upload process, the application creates a pseudo 'Passport identifier' (ID) (Commonly known as a 'Temp Passport ID') for each record. Each record consists of an 'EmailID' (Primary identifier (ID) or 'Mobile number.' (When the 'EmailID' is not available in the list, the application considers the 'Mobile number' as the mandatory data). When a user gets redirected to the Target list tab, the newly created Ad-hoc list becomes the first list on the Target list page/view.

The pseudo 'Passport ID' gets generated with the format of 'AL_PassportID.'

Note "AL_" forms the prefix during the regular 'Passport ID' creation method.

The pseudo 'Passport ID' gets generated and stored in a separate pseudo "Passport ID master" database (DB) to avoid any mix with the regular 'Passport IDs' available in the master database.
